Boiler room fraud
Boiler room fraud is the common term for the mis-selling of worthless or bogus stocks and shares for the sole purpose of defrauding cash from unwitting investors. Organised criminals run 'boiler rooms' with a sales pitch designed to play to an innocent investor's appetite and desire to make a profit. Read more about this on the FCA's website: www.fca.org.uk
Bogus investment funds
We have become aware of increased fraudulent activity where members of the public have been cold-called by people claiming to work for Jupiter.
The callers have been trying to persuade individuals to invest money in bogus funds that share the same or similar names to genuine Jupiter funds or in funds that use the Jupiter name. Individuals who invest this way following such calls are not investing in legitimate Jupiter funds and are likely being defrauded by criminals operating in overseas jurisdictions.
Jupiter Unit Trust Managers Limited, Jupiter Asset Management Limited and their related companies are not authorised to give investment advice; therefore, staff do not make cold-calls and Jupiter will not contact you to make investment recommendations.
The only way to invest in genuine Jupiter funds is directly with us by phone or post or indirectly through an IFA or funds platform provider. For more information on investing, please visit our website www.jupiteronline.com or speak to your financial adviser.
If you are contacted by any person claiming to work for Jupiter and offering investment solutions, we recommend that you either contact us on 0844 620 7600 or you report your experience to the FCA, either by phone or via their online reporting form, which can be found here. Jupiter takes any reported activity of this nature seriously and may take action to protect the Jupiter funds and name.

Postal interception fraud
In recent years the financial services industry has seen a growing number of non-UK residents becoming the targets of postal interception fraud by organised criminals in relation to their investments that are managed in the UK.
The main group of non-UK residents affected by this type of fraud are South African residents; however, other countries' nationals are also vulnerable to this method of attack.
The unlawful interception of mail by criminals is a way for them to obtain confidential customer account data. When in receipt of this information the fraudster then attempts to pose as the account holder in order to try and steal or transfer the funds away from the customer.
Jupiter has developed and implemented a number of systems and controls to combat fraud and safeguard the interests of customers. The purpose of this alert is to warn customers of the potential threat. If any customer is worried about this topic please do not hesitate to contact us.
